 SODEV - Who We Are?

SODEV
is a Lebanese organization that is dedicated to the pursuit of social development and justice in Lebanon. It is our belief that Lebanon represents a gateway for the existence of a progressive social climate in the Middle East. Our goal is to provide assistance to new and pre-existing organizations dedicated to improving social conditions in the country.

This work represents an opportunity to create change in a part of the world that is desperately in need of it. It is a mission that requires courage, dedication and visionary minds eager in leading Lebanese communities in the fight for social development. As a new organization we have discovered the need for selfless sacrifice in this challenging endeavour. We hope that you will share in our vision and sacrifice with us to fill the social vacuum left by years of civil war and economic instability.

SODEV - What Do We Do?

Our role in the social development of Lebanon is to secure funding for new and existing organizations dedicated to the social well-being of those in need. This is achieved by organizing fundraising events, grants (foundations, government, etc.) and through private donations. We are actively looking to create partnerships with both domestic and international organizations interested in working with us towards social development in Lebanon through helping fund one of our projects.

We place great emphasis on communication and open dialogue with our partners so that they are fully informed about the challenges we face as well as the progress we make.  We also place a great emphasis on sharing information on the various social and human rights issues facing Lebanon (poverty, women’s rights, education…) by providing full access to the organizations that we represent.

SODEV - How Do We Define Progress?

It is our goal to expand the field of operations so that no Lebanese family in need of assistance will ever be turned away because of an undersized staff or lack funding. Our hope is that along with sustaining and expanding operations among our current projects, we branch out to other areas in severe need of exposure and remedy.

Progress is ultimately defined by the participation and interaction of our communities in this cause. The center has trained over 150 volunteers to assist in their social programs. This is just the beginning in our campaign to create awareness about the plight of those living in poverty; wilting under the present dire economic conditions being felt by much of the Lebanese population. We welcome the input of all community members looking for a medium to express their concerns and offer possible solutions that can be adopted by our organization.
